The Watch Computer on TV Project

A couple of months ago here at the teeblr-house we came into a new TV, a sweet RCA 40-inch LCD job. Hooked up the cable tv and called it good. Which it is.

But poking around on the set yesterday, and finally reading the manual, I notice that the set has a 15-pin VGA plug which makes it easy to input a video signal from the computer! Everybody go woot! So I am launching the Watch Computer on TV project.
Since the set has the 15-pin VGA input all I really need for this project, the Watch Computer on TV project, is a splitter and a cable. The splitter will allow me to feed two monitors…one will be the existing computer monitor and the other will be my tv. The new cable will run from the computer to the tv, which is about 20 feet away.
I googled around and found VGA splitters for 5 to 6 dollars, and 25-foot VGA cables for 25 to 30 dollars. I’m thinking that’s not bad and I can get the Watch Computer on TV project done for about 40 bucks. But before ordering anything I took a quick look on eBay to see if I could save a few bucks. And surprise surprise, big savings. On eBay I found the VGA splitter for under 3 bucks with no shipping charge, and the 25-foot VGA cable for just 15 dollars and again no shipping charge. Even figuring in some California sales tax I got the splitter and cable for about $20.00.
So, the splitter and cable are on order and I should have them in a week or so. I’ll report back on how everything works once the doo-dads arrive.
